It would be strange to invite you into such a new + intimate space dedicated to your wellbeing without telling you who we are.
With community as core value at trove, we thought it best that we introduce you to the founders, zoë + tanya.
trove’s team got to sit down with z + t to ask them a few questions, and here’s what they had to say about the WHY behind trove, the inspiration behind the city retreat space + what you can expect when you walk through the doors!
When did you both know you wanted to open trove?
T: I was on a run in October 2021 on the south beach boardwalk in Miami and the vision for trove came to me so clearly. A beautiful and inspiring space designed to help people reset. The types of practitioners, the business model, it all came flooding in. I thought, “LifeHouse…that’s what it’ll be called…a house dedicated to boosting our life source”. While the name has since changed, the vision has remained the same.
Z: I remember a busy week when I had a naturopathy appointment, a massage and a facial all booked for different times in different places. I came home from the final appointment, looked at my husband, and said, “I want to open a space that combines all of these modalities – where you can come and just feel taken care of, a one-stop shop. No more driving all over the city, just a spot to come to where you will leave feeling totally nourished”.
Have you ever been to a place like trove?
T: No. trove is more than a physical space, it’s a feeling. It’s a deep exhale, it’s a coming home, it’s an uncompromising experience. At trove, we are not only dedicated to the physical wellbeing of our team and clients, we are committed to the opportunity to consistently exceed expectations by delivering wellbeing at the intersection of science and magic.
Z: No. I’ve been to places that have elements of what we’re actively creating, but nothing that houses the range of modalities that we will, in the beautiful, otherworldly setting that we are designing with our team.
What inspired your idea to create this space?
T: As a 100% commission based, busy corporate professional who became increasingly obsessed with wellness, through my own journey with mental health (a history with depression and panic disorder), and my physical health (losing over 120 pounds)…I spent all my spare time reading, listening to, and trying out the best wellness modalities that were available to support me.
Wellness became my passion. So much so that I ended up studying to become a Holistic Health Coach. trove is the birth child of my own experiences and the culmination of everything I could have ever wanted under one roof.
Z: My background is in commercial litigation. Practicing law on Bay Street often meant incredibly long days, nights and weekends. It meant long stretches without vacation, and in my case one notable all-nighter (I worked from 8am to 5pm the following day without so much as a shower or change).
As a lawyer, I always understood that these were occupational hazards, a part of my role as a professional. AND, I had nowhere easy in the city to go and hit the reset button. Sure, there are lots of options for a massage, but then what? I wanted a half-day or a full day to support my body, mind, and soul. I needed to come back to centre.
trove is the reset I was looking for. It is one place to come for relaxation, for healing, for a pause, for nourishment. I love spending time in Nosara, Costa Rica and engaging in a variety of restorative practices while I’m there, and while it’s a dream and a privilege to do that, it’s not always easy to get away. I wanted to create a place where after a long trial, or a deal closing, or a project ending, or a tough personal ride, people could just come to care for themselves and be taken care of.
How do you hope we all feel when we finally get to walk through trove’s doors?
T: Like it’s the most familiar unfamiliar feeling. Like you’ve returned home. Like you can take off the armour that you wear to move through your day. Like you didn’t know you needed it and you’re so happy you finally found it.
Z: I want you walking through the doors of trove to feel like a deep exhale. The entire sensory experience should make us all feel like we’ve left the city and entered another world.
How do you see trove fitting into people’s lives?
T: As a place that people allow themselves to retreat to often. Whether for a regular routine check-in (single service) or a full day of nourishment and replenishment (retreat). A place that people visit before they need to, because they want to.
Z: I see trove as the place where people come to completely shift their state of being, to feel nurtured. I also see it as a place where people come daily or weekly for a class, an infrared sauna and cold plunge, an IV drip, or a massage. It’s a place where people can plug and play according to what they need – in any given moment.
What’s been the most 1) fun element of opening trove, and 2) the most surprising?
T: The most fun is building this business with a co-founder that makes partnership not only feel easy, but incredibly inspiring. Together, we come up with wildly big and audacious goals and strategically look at the possibilities. We get to be surrounded by unbelievable talent who have all agreed to come along for this ride with us – from our branding team, to our design team, to our ops team, and legal team… it is such a privilege and JOY to co-create with extraordinary humans. The most surprising – what we have personally overcome in the last year while bringing this vision to life! More to say on that later.
Z: The most fun element of opening trove has been the partnership with my co-founder which I can only describe as pure magic (no science here!). We decided from day one that building a global wellbeing brand was going to be easy and joyful, and we have chosen that as our truth every day. We have stayed committed to seeing every step as an opportunity, and all resistance as a chance to consider alternative paths.
The most surprising aspect of opening trove has been the people who have showed up on our path at exactly the right time, who are supporting us in bringing our vision to life. From our incredible design team at Design of Brand, to our copywriter, our CFO/COO and Project Manager, our amazing assistant all of whom are total rockstars. Opening trove will take a village, and while I’m not surprised that we found the most epic team to do it with, it completely blows me away how easy it has been.
When can we expect to walk through your doors for the first time?
T + Z: Fall 2023!!! We quite literally cannot wait.
What’s the best piece of wellbeing advice you ever received?
T: Fill your own cup first. We can only be of service to others and this world once we have taken care of our own needs. I’m inspired to contribute to a community where we celebrate our commitment to our own wellbeing above all else.
Z: It’s never a waste of time to care for ourselves, in fact the opposite. Time spent caring for myself expands the time I have available for everything else. It expands my capacity, it expands what’s possible, and it enhances my life in every single way.
Both z + t are beyond thrilled to welcome you to the space when trove’s doors open in fall 2023. You can expect to see them in + out of the space taking advantage of the modalities + ensuring the experience is all it’s intended to be.
